Innaugral SLIFO Youth BBQ

The inaugural SLIFO Youth barbecue took place on Saturday, April 18th, 2008, in Thorncliff’s Valley Park.  There was a very good turnout, and approximately 35 brothers attended.  The main attraction of the day was the cricket game.  Team Yusri faced team Hifaz, and although the match-ups were even on paper, team Hifaz blew out team Yusri, with some great bowling from Azeem, and a good batting display from Ifaz.  The soccer game on the other hand was more even sided, as team Ghanim won a close game over team Yasir. 

Overall though this was a good experience for the youth, as they were able to meet some new faces, and interact with other members of the community within the same age group.  The main goal of the Youth Committee is to try to get a sense of bonding between the youth, so that strong relationships can be forged on a personal and community wide level, to build success in the future, inshallah.

We felt that the first major event was a success, and hope to have at least one event every month.  We tried to contact as many brothers between the ages of 14-23 as possible; however we understand that we could not reach everyone.  If you feel we may have missed you, we do apologize sincerely as this was our first major event.  Please feel free to contact any one of the brothers from the youth committee, and let them know you will be interested in taking part in future events so that you can be added to our database.
